Alice Walker writes in her book, The Color Purple, “I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it. People think pleasing God is all God cares about. But any fool living in the world can see it always trying to please us back.”
There is a history to these words that is worthy of our attention and I encourage you to seek it out.
As for me, these words came alive in a new way on a recent hike to Upper Chicago Lake.
These purple beauties invited me to be still and “notice” the gifts they offered to all that “noticed”… and ABUNDANT gifts of beauty they are.
May we be open to “NOTICE” the gifts of all, in particular today, the gifts of those that often go un-noticed. And yes, I believe this pleases our God, who is pleased to share the gifts in the first place.
